Becky Witzman joined HRTV in 2004, and currently serves in a number of key roles for the network, contributing as both a producer and on-air presence.
She produces the network's daily show, "Race Day America", as well as Saturday's and Sunday's edition of "Westrock Coffee First Call". Her on-air work includes co-hosting the weekly "Across The Board" show, featuring interviews with key personalities in the sports. Additionally, Becky fills in frequently as an on-air host for portions of the day's racing action.
During her tenure at HRTV, she has contributed to on-site coverage of all three Triple Crown races in recent years, as well as the Maryland Million, and the annual Claiming Crown.
Witzman grew up in Minnesota, and remembers being drawn to the sport after watching Ferdinand's Derby win in 1986, and credits her mother in piquing her interest. When she turned 16, she obtained her first racetrack job as a hotwalker for noted trainer Richard Mandella at Del Mar, and she also spent summers at Canterbury Park working for Tony Rengstorf and David Van Winkle.
Her college years were spent at the University of Arizona's Race Track Industry Program, where she majored in Animal Sciences and minored in Business Management. Upon graduating, Witzman returned to working with Mandella on a full-time basis, and eventually rose from hotwalker to assistant trainer. While working for the Hall of Fame trainer, she was around many top horses, including: Pleasantly Perfect, Halfbridled, Johar, Gentleman, and Siphon. She fondly recalls being part of Mandella's historic Breeders' Cup Day in 2003, when he saddled four winners.
The acclaimed documentary, "On The Muscle," chronicled the highly-successful Mandella stable in 2002, and Witzman was prominently featured. Witzman is married and resides in Monrovia, CA.
