biography
Gary Mandella is the son of Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella. He went to work for his father as a full-time assistant from 1995-1999 and began training on his own in 2002.
He earned first career stakes victory with Man Among Men, winner of the 2002 Pinjara and 2003 Sham, both at Santa Anita Park.
His first graded stakes winner was Taste of Paradise, who won the 2004 Vernon Underwood Stakes at Hollywood Park in stakes-record time of 1:08.04 for six furlongs as a longshot.
Mandella joined HRTV as a host and analyst in 2010, where he brings his insights as a trainer to viewers.
