Joanne Jones joined HRTV in 2003, and since that time she has filled a variety of on-air roles.
Most recently, Jones has served as co-host of HRTV's daily show, "Race Day America", which features a preview of the racing day, along with topical issues in the racing world and interviews with prominent guests. She was integral in developing a weekly segment, "It's a Woman's World" -- within "Race Day America" -- which showcases influential and successful women in the sport. She is also a regular on the network's weekly show, "The Edge," and "Against The Odds".
Her extended tenure with HRTV has taken here to numerous venues, including all three Triple Crown sites. Jones was at the Kentucky Derby in 2007, the Preakness in 2004 and 2011, and the Belmont Stakes in 2005. Additionally, she was on-site for the Breeders' Cup at Lone Star Park, and also covered the opening of the remodeled Gulfstream Park in 2006.
In her career, she was the first woman on the West Coast hired to do TV commentary at a racetrack -- Hollywood Park in 1991. Duties included hosting the paddock commentary, a pre-race handicapping/interview show and the FOX Sports West show. She served as paddock host for a number of meetings throughout the years, including Fairplex Park (2002-2007) and Gulfstream Park (2003-2006). She was one of a select group of women in the DRF Horseplayer's Expo in Las Vegas (2007).
She created and hosts the popular "Track Diva Days" -- a high-end day for women designed to enlighten and educate them about racing. Also, Jones hosted a seminar with ESPN's Jeannine Edward and DRF's Jay Privman, for Pimlico, on Susan G. Komen/Ladies' Legends/Black Eyed Susan Day this year.
Jones was introduced to horse racing by her father, the well-respected Prof. Gordon Jones. He was the columnist/handicapper for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, and she began working for him on weekends in high school. Prior to that, she fondly remembers spending many Sunday afternoons in Marje Everett's Director's Room at Hollywood Park, in the midst of Cary Grant's daughter, Jennifer, Walter Matthau's son, Charlie, and Kirk Kirkorian's daughter, Courtney. Jones lives with her son, Ethan, in Sierra Madre, CA.
