Production Assistant, Live

Assists primarily in Live Production work group, but may be shifted to work within Post Production or another work group on long or short assignments. Assists production staff in various broadcast activities, such as researching, editing, locating and gathering digital assets or other necesities, spoting horses or racing personnel, and other assisting activities as they arise.  Utilizes computer and technical expertise in completing assignments for broadcast. Utilizes creativity and great writing skills to generate, contribute to and execute stories for production. Researches story segments and produces some show elements.


Takes direction from and works with producers and production staff on acquiring assets for broadband distribution

Researches and compiles background information or story segments with research staff or independently

Support producers, editors and talent from the creative process through to the completion of projects

Assists in preparation of editorial material

Maintains and manages all digital assets for quality, backup, catalog, and storage

Edits content for broadband specific distribution

May produce some story elements independently

Proficiently utilizes multiple broadcast formats, both digital and linear

Exhibits proficiency with networks and file transfer protocols

Exhibits proficiency in tapeless workflows

Exercises extreme attention to detail and excellent organizational skills exhibiting them in daily work

Utilizes excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills

Utilizes multi-tasking and self-starting skills as appropriate, as well as taking direction from others and adjusting to constructive criticism

Exhibits strong organizational skills and mature attitude

Meets all deadlines assigned

Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned on a long term or short term basis.  May also take daily direction from: Shift Producer

1+ year(s) related experience required: in broadcast production, preferably live television

Education: Related Bachelor’s Degree (BA, BFA, BS) required: film, television, journalism or communications

Technical, Operational, Mechanical and other Skills and Abilities:

Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint experience

Strong grasp of standard broadcast operations

Experience in live television broadcasting

Final Cut Pro experience

Other: Expert level skills with Mac OS environment, as well as strong PC skills

Other: Experience with broadcast signal routers, DigiBeta machines and Omneon Servers

Other: Strong working knowledge of Adobe CS, Final Cut,Microsoft Office, AJA Cards, BRU, LTO tape formats, Retrospect, Cleaner, QuickTime, and FTP applications

Other: Experience with digital video encoding, QC and compression standards, as well as web based communicationsand storage technologies

Other: Fluent with computer scripting and setup for automated workflows

Other: Advanced experiencewith audio / video codecs and formats including SD and HD H.264 as well as frame rates and aspect ratio conversions

Language and Comprehension Skills:

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform intermediate level mathematics such as computing time code calculations and wagering odds.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to carryout detailed written and oral instructions.
