Arcadia, CA, May 30 -- HRTV (R), The Network for Horse Sports, will provide equestrian fans with more high-quality programming when it airs highlights from the 2011 Alltech National Horse Show (NHS), the most prestigious horse show in the U.S., on Thursday, May 31 at 9 p.m. ET.

The 128th edition of the event was held, for the first time, at the new Alltech Indoor Arena on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY last November, drawing very positive reviews.  Lexington was also the home of the 2010 World Equestrian Games.

The 2011 edition of the highly-anticipated event featured approximately 500 hunter, jumper and hunt-seat equitation horses competing during the five-day event at the sparkling new venue, with the jumpers competing against the backdrop of the picturesque Horse Park.

The Alltech Horse Show drew an impressive array of competitors, including the likes of McLain Ward, Laura Knaut, Richard Spooner, Sarah Milliren, and many more. The highlight of the Alltech National Horse Show was the $250,000 Alltech National Horse Show Grand Prix, and FEI World Cup qualifying event.

The nationally-prominent event has enjoyed a rich history since being founded in 1883 by a group of affluent sportsmen.  The show enjoyed a long, successful run at New York's fabled Madison Square Garden, and has also had homes at New Jersey's Meadowlands Arena, as well as Wellington, FL, and a three-year stint in Syracuse, NY, before venturing to Lexington last year.

There have been many memorable moments involving the NHS, including the first international involvement in 1909, and then Eleonora Sears becoming the first female competitor in 1909.  The National Horse Show celebrated its centennial in 1983 with a Carriage Marathon for over 100 horse-drawn vehicles through New York's Central Park and down Fifth Avenue to City Hall.

“HRTV is pleased to offer this prestigious, traditional and important American equestrian event on both our HRTV broadcast channel and our online site, HRTV.com," said Scott Daruty, President of HRTV.  "As we increase the amount of programming covering a wide variety of horse sports, we continue to fulfill our mission to serve the equestrian audience as 'The Network for Horse Sports.'''

“The National Horse Show is one of America’s oldest and most revered sporting traditions,” said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech. “Now that it is the Alltech National Horse Show, we want to not only keep that tradition alive, but to create new excitement and energy for the future of this great event.”
