Why I Believe “Racing” Owes Horse of the Year to Zenyatta and Why She Deserves It

Zenyatta has brought popularity to the sport during a time when the industry is struggling.  I personally saw her rekindle enthusiasm in old racing fans and inspire our youngest generation as well.  Children chose to dress up in the Moss’s silks on Halloween!  That’s just one example of how far the admiration for Zenyatta has stretched.

I believe it would be a crying shame if the voters of this sport did not recognize this and repay her with Horse of the Year.  How else can we thank her?

And for those voters who believe Horse of the Year should be decided on body of work alone — if they don’t think Zenyatta’s performances this past year were enough to merit Horse of the Year, then one must question the quality of the rest of the horses Blame beat in the BC Classic.  The vote should then go to Goldikova.

Good luck, Ladies!

Picks for Sunday at Santa Anita

Race 1 – Not sure if P Val can nurse Real Rockport’s speed 7 furlongs the way he nursed Warren’s concept and Candy’s pleasure home yesterday. By the way 4 of the 7 dirt races run yesterday were won on the lead. Two others were won with horses sitting just off the lead. I think Kathy Walsh who’s hitting at 100% so far with two runners can get another one home with Alexandria Marie.

Race 2 Evening Jewel is all racehorse. I think she has the class and turn of foot to sprint by the field late and nail the beautifully managed Unzip Me right on the money. What a hill course pro she is!

Race 3 – Meltarib outworked stable mate and Friday’s Mdn 40 cl winner Seachi on 27th Dec from the gate. Also 1st time Lasix for #1 Suances Flower.

Race 4 – Bejarano sticks with Blue Jay Attack for Marti Jones over stablemate. Red Defense tries turf for the first time, a son of Redattore who earned 1.5 million on the turf himself. Format V should get another check.

Race 5 – Primed just beat Candy’s Pleasure who came back yesterday to win for a 20 claimer.

Race 6 – I galloped the Dam of Mrs Rosa, Noches de Rosa who was one of my favorites during my time working with Mandella so I am Bias!!!! Noches won the G1 Gamely beating little Megahertz. Mrs Rosa is bred to run all day.
